Anti-Theft Paddle Lock for SUP Paddleboards & Kayaks

The DocksLocks Paddle Lock secures your SUP or kayak paddle against theft. This compact paddle lock clamps around your paddle (or any pole up to 1.5") and locks it to your board with a DocksLocks security cable, so your paddle and paddleboard stay protected together at the beach, dock, or trailhead.

  • SECURE. Aluminum construction provides security and protection against thieves.
  • VERSATILE. Works with most paddles, one size fits most. Fits paddles or any rod/pole with a diameter up to 1.5".
  • WEATHERPROOF MATERIALS. Constructed of anodized aluminum that will not rust.
  • QUALITY. The interior of the lock is padded with neoprene, protecting your paddle from scratches.
  • To use, simply clamp around your paddle and secure it using the same DocksLocks® security cable you use to lock your board. Lock your paddle and your SUP board together. Great for protecting your paddle from theft.

Pair it with our surf & paddleboard security systems or a coiled security cable.

What Is a Paddle Lock?

The term "paddle lock" means two different things, and which one you want depends on your gear.

In watersports, a paddle lock is a clamp that closes around the shaft of a kayak or paddleboard paddle and connects to a security cable. It gives a round, hole-free paddle shaft something to be locked to, so your paddle can be secured to your board, roof rack, dock, or truck bed. Paddles are among the most frequently stolen pieces of paddling gear precisely because they are easy to carry off and are almost never secured when the board itself is locked.

In industrial hardware, a paddle lock (also called a paddle latch or paddle handle) is a flush-mounted T-shaped handle used on toolboxes, trailer doors, and equipment cabinets. It has nothing to do with watersports gear.

This page covers the watersports version: the DocksLocks Paddle Lock, which fits paddle shafts up to 1.5 inches in diameter and connects to any DocksLocks security cable up to 10mm.

Paddle Lock vs. Padlock: What Is the Difference?

A padlock is a complete locking device. It has its own shackle and cylinder, and it works by passing through something that already has a hole in it, like a hasp, a gate latch, or a chain link.

A paddle lock is not a lock by itself. It is a clamp that creates a secure attachment point where none exists. A paddle shaft is a smooth round tube with no hole to thread anything through, which is exactly why a padlock is useless on it. The paddle lock grips the shaft, and your cable does the locking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a paddle lock used for?

It secures a kayak or paddleboard paddle against theft by clamping around the shaft and connecting to a security cable, so the paddle can be locked to your board, roof rack, dock, or vehicle.

Is a paddle lock the same as a padlock?

No. A padlock needs an existing hole or hasp to pass through. A paddle lock clamps around a smooth round shaft to create an attachment point that does not otherwise exist, then connects to a cable.

Will it fit my paddle?

It fits shafts up to 1.5 inches in diameter, which covers the large majority of kayak and SUP paddles on the market. On an adjustable paddle, clamp it on the fixed section of the shaft rather than over the adjustment collar.

Do I need to buy a security cable separately?

Yes. The paddle lock is the clamp and anchor point; it pairs with any DocksLocks security cable up to 10mm.

Will it scratch my paddle?

No. The interior is lined with neoprene padding specifically to protect the shaft finish.

Can I use it in salt water?

Yes. The body is anodized marine grade aluminum and will not rust. Rinse with fresh water after salt water exposure to keep it operating smoothly.
